Pizzeria da Canemorto marked the first instalment in CANEMORTO’s ongoing series of gastronomic performance exhibitions. The trio transformed the KAPOW exhibition space into a functioning pizzeria, reimagining every element of a classic Italian take-away pizzeria.
CANEMORTO installed a professional pizza oven, built a counter, created a special menu of dog-shaped pizzas, designed custom pizza boxes, and painted a mural depicting the Gulf of Naples as well as a series of paintings inspired by those typically found in Italian pizzerias. The trio recruited twerk dancers to serve as pizza chefs and waitstaff for guests.
In its short lifetime, Pizzeria da Canamorto was crowned the best pizzeria in town before closing down due to fraudulent bankruptcy.
