Litografia Bulla, Roma (Italy)
Litografia Bulla is the oldest artists’ lithography studio still in operation. Founded in 1818 in Paris, it then found its definitive headquarters in Rome in 1840. It soon became, from the first half of the 1900s, an important point of reference for the artistic community; the studio is now carried on by the seventh generation of printers.

During a three-week residency at the studio, CANEMORTO approached the litography techniques and became obsessed with Holypopstore, a high-end sneaker store whose front window is situated right in front of Litografia Bulla’s historic storefront. The trio saw Holypopstore as a competitor which sells the newest form of limited editions, opposed to the traditional ones produced by the printmaking studio. CANEMORTO decided to teach the fancy shop a lesson, creating their own limited edition shoes and showcasing them in Litografia Bulla’s front window.

The trio developed three pairs of wooden shoes sculpting them with woodcut tools and blowtorches. Linoleum plates, engraved with the trio’s characteristic images, were attached under the soles, thus creating “the incredible wooden shoes that print artworks from the soles”. During the opening, the audience was invited to try on Zocur Footwear and create “footprints” under the envious gaze of the sneaker shop.
