Zocur Footwear
Solo exhibition, 2022
Litografia Bulla, Roma (Italy)
Litografia Bulla, the oldest artist lithography studio still in operation, was founded in Paris in 1818 before establishing its permanent headquarters in Rome in 1840. By the early twentieth century, it had become a key hub for the artistic community. Today, the studio is run by the seventh generation of printers.

During a three-week residency at the studio, CANEMORTO delved into lithographic techniques and simultaneously developed an obsession with Holypopstore, a high-end sneaker boutique located directly across from Litografia Bulla’s historic storefront. The trio saw the store as a modern competitor selling the newest form of limited editions, as opposed to the traditional ones produced by the printmaking studio. CANEMORTO decided to teach the fancy shop a lesson by creating their own limited-edition footwear and showcasing them in the window of Litografia Bulla.

The result was three pairs of wooden shoes, sculpted using woodcut tools and blowtorches. Linoleum plates engraved with the trio’s signature imagery were attached to the soles, creating the “incredible wooden shoes that print artworks from the soles”. At the opening event, members of the public were invited to try on Zocur Footwear and leave a trail of art footprints, all under the envious gaze of the sneaker shop.
